We flew through Amsterdam on our way from Detroit to Lyon. Walking through a terminal it struck me how many KLM planes there were on the runway (like Delta in Atlanta) so I took a picture.
We arrived in Lyon in one piece and standing outside the terminal I felt compelled to take a picture of the sign as proof that we had arrived.
This is a part of the airport we were not in. It's like the airport grew wings of its own. I thought the building was so cool that I took a photo.
Apparently many people use these luggage carts because here I saw a couple airport employees bringing back a snake of them. I was amused.
On the first day of school we gathered in the library and talked with the the nice French teacher there and had a little chat.
The American French teachers were on hand and so they were captured on film for proof. Behind them, on the board, is a bunch of pictures, including many from 2 years ago, the last time this exchange took place.
Papa may have been a rolling stone, but there was a big rotating stone in a park in the city. It rolls around at a slow rate and there are many little images on the wheel. I have no idea why it was there. The guy leaning up against the stone is an year-long exchange student from North Carolina.
One of a few photos with me in it. I am the guy in the middle and my exchange guy, David, is the right. We hopped over a chain and stood in this gazebo and had our photo taken.
On the first night there many of the students and their exchange students gathered at the pub and had a grand old time.
This teacher, I believe the English teacher, poked fun at David and said he hardly did any work when he offered to sweep, so I took a photo to prove that he works.
There was a covered cement pad between buildings where people gathered sometimes. Brandon used this pad as a skateboard arena. Here he is approaching Eric to do a jump.
Here Brandon is going up into a jump over Eric. It takes gonads to sit there and Eric didn't mind. No, no, we weren't really bored. Honest.
Here Brandon does a kick flip. However, he did not land this one. The prior two he landed perfectly without injury to Eric or himself.
The city has electric trams connecting all the areas together (in Europe, people live closer together so systems like this are easier) and here is a shot down the tram tracks away from the shopping center.
We were free to roam the city at times with our exchange student. Here I am standing in front of a church in the city. The hat? Oh, I wore that almost all the time on this trip. No. I don't know why.
This is the city hall of Saint Etienne. The building to the right is showcased in the next photo.
There is a cool story about this building. But at this point I don't remember what it is. However the building looks cool so I had to include it anyway.
I think that is a gold water tower atop that building. Actually I don't think I'm kidding; well at least that's what I remember David telling me.
The city is in the valley surrounded by all the hills (like the one I'm standing on to take this photo). This picture was taken on the way to David's parents' appartment from downtown.
We went bowling that week. The shoes were in metric, so we had fun trying to figure out our shoe sizes in metric. Here is a shot of Gretel Caroll bowling. She did not pick up this spare.
Some of us remember Veron. Some of us remember her better than others. Here she sits at the scoring table when we were bowling.
