Yes, it is a coal mine. Apparently coal is the natural resource that was available in this area and this mine facility has been preserved. I don't think they've kept the mine open but we walked past this area and I took a photo.

We were on our way to a skate park and at the entrance to the parking lot was a sign holder above the road in. A few of the guys jumped up and made their way to the other side. The rest of us just watched.

We made it to the skate park and Brandon jumped on his skateboard and started trying the ramps. There were some people on bikes and others on skates all using this park. The amazing thing is that I didn't see too many people fall.

Eric had never tried in-lines before. However the French kid standing next to him was kind enough to let Eric borrow his skates and then taught Eric how to skate on them. After a few falls, Eric got the hang of it. Jon watched from above the whole time.

Well, Jon became bored just watching people skate and board around and wanted to try it himself. Brandon let Jon use his board. However, Jon's balance wasn't great and I sat there waiting until he fell off and snapped a shot.

We were at another bar and someone noted that I was taking a lot of photos of other people, but my mug wasn't in too many photos so they insisted on taking my picture and here is the result.

This is Elodie. She was Gretel's exchange student and was one of my crew on an earlier page. She's a nice person, and I wonder what she's up to now.

I think falling off the skateboard changed Jon. Actually we stole the cigarette from a Frenchie and Jon posed with it.  I think it makes him look pretty suave, well, except that the cigarette is bent and somewhat broken from stealing it.

David was pretending to have a mass of hair coming from his ears and Gretel was sitting by him so her hair became the victim. He also used the hair for a beard, a moustache and underarm hair. Gretel had a good laugh.

Joe is one of those kids who you never know what surprise he'll have for you next. We had nearly finished the week and he hadn't had much in the way of drinks. However this night he ordered a special beer.

It was one of those occasions that had I not taken a photo, neither myself nor anyone else would believe. Therefore I took two and would like to show that Jargus does know how to kick back.

He we have a collection of 'I was here and I want to have a photo of this place' shots. This first one is leaning out a window in David's apartment and taking a photo in one direction. Many different tower sizes are shown in this shot showing building diversity.

Looking the other direction out the window we can see Centre Deux at the end of the block. It was a multi-story mall with a grocery store inside so that anyone could walk there and not need to park. We Americans went in there a couple times to buy a couple groceries like French candy.

This was a typical look for a classroom in the High School. Two people sit at a desk and the teacher's desk is on a raised platform. The Italian teacher was kind enough to let me take a photo of her room and I thank her again for it.

Looking across a cement pad we see the Junior High School. The high school looked much the same (well the artwork was different on the side of the building) and if you look closely through the trees you can see another roofed open area like the one where Brandon was jumping over Eric on his skateboard.

Here I receive my certificate of completion of the exchange program (currently framed in my room above my computer desk) and a handshake from the director of the high school. Everybody received the same thing.

Even Mme. Summers received her certificate of completion, but she received a bijoux too. This ends our stay in Saint Etienne and we packed up and traveled to Paris where the next page starts.
